Cate Blanchett Was “a Couple Sheets to the Wind” While Giving Her Golden Globes Acceptance Speech

Cate Blanchett, Golden Globes 2014, Winner Cate Blanchett did admit she had a “few vodkas under her belt” during her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes. But the Blue Jasmine star is revealing a bit more about her evening leading up to her winning moment.

“Unfortunately my category came up rather late in the evening so I was a couple of sheets to the wind,” the Aussie actress told The Telegraph with a laugh. “Once your name is read out it’s a high like no other so I can’t remember a lot. I hope I didn’t do too many things I’ll regret.”

This makes sense because this is the Golden Globes, the film-and-TV extravaganza where celebs are encouraged to drink (and in some cases can’t even be bothered to leave their liquor behind when they take the stage).

As for the award, the blond beauty dished “the Globe is in the hotel room and my sons made a little shrine for it with all the flowers that I have been receiving for the past week that are now dead.”

Blanchett is on a winning streak this awards season and raking up the accolades for her role in Woody Allen’s comedy-drama.

During her SAG Awards acceptance speech, Blanchett took the stage to start giving her thanks. However, she was only onstage for a few moments when the teleprompter let her know that didn’t have much time left.

The Hobbit World Premiere: Peter Jackson, Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett Celebrate in New Zealand

One premiere to rule them all and in the darkness bind them.

Middle-earth mania was in full force as an estimated 100,000 Kiwis turned out to hailPeter Jackson and stars Martin Freeman,Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis and Cate Blanchett at the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Wednesday night in the New Zealand capital of Wellington.

Animal cruelty allegations cast shadow over Hobbit premiere as Peter Jackson again denies claims

The blockbuster, the first installment of a new trilogy that’s serving as a prequel to the director’s trio of Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings films, earned rave reviews from those in attendance at its first showing at the Embassy Theatre, whose entrance was decorated to look like a Hobbit house.

Excited fans—many of whom wore homemade hobbit feet, elven cloaks and wizard costumes—cheered as Jackson and company walked a massive red carpet. Along with new cast members including Richard Armitage, who plays the dwarf leader Thorin Oakenshield, were veterans of the first trilogy, among them Elijah Wood, who briefly reprises his role as Frodo in The Hobbit and lavished praise on Freeman in the lead as Bilbo Baggins.

“He was brilliant, the right amount of funny,” Wood told The Hollywood Reporter. “He has strange qualities but also real heart. He is the heart of the movie, and he really pulled it off.”

For his part, Jackson was extremely humbled by The Hobbit‘s reception.

“It’s great to have so many people come out to celebrate the movie,” the filmmaker told the New York Daily News. “It’s very humbling. New Zealand is a very small country, it’s a very young country. I just think we like to celebrate when we punch above our weight. We sometimes do quite well in sports, and now we’re doing OK in moviemaking too.”

It was quite a welcome switch-up from the mood a few hours earlier at a Hobbit press conference, where Jackson again denied claims that two-dozen animals died during production due to poor conditions on a farm where they were housed.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters in the U.S. on Dec. 14.

Kristen Bell Shows Off Baby Bump Days Ahead of Pregnancy Announcement

Kristen Bell shows off her baby bump

Kristen Bell shows off her baby bump

Oh, baby! Kristen Bell may have been keeping the news of her pregnancy under wraps, but she didn’t seem to playing it all that secret with her baby bump.

The expectant mama was spotted out sans her fiancé and baby-daddy-to-be Dax Shepard in Glendale, Calif., last week, just days ahead of her happy announcement.

Get all the details on Kristen and Dax’s impending stork delivery

Bell was spotted engaging in a little retail therapy at the Americana shopping center, and didn’t seem too concerned about covering up her (albeit still quite petite) baby bump when she was caught out by paparazzi. And if the bump wasn’t a giveaway, then that gorgeous glow certainly should’ve been.

In any case, while baby will obviously be more than provided for, judging by the shopping bags Kristen was loaded up with, this particular excursion was clearly a self-pampering endeavor. Well deserved, we’d say.

Congrats, Kristen and Dax! That’s gonna be one lucky kid. If Bell gets that emotional over a sloth, just think how besotted she’s gonna be with her own baby.

Disney Not Stopping at Star Wars 7: 3 Films and More Coming!

George Lucas in works with Disney for more Star Wars films

George Lucas in works with Disney for more Star Wars films

George Lucas’ original vision is going to become a reality.

After initially offering up the promise of a seventh Star Wars film in 2015, Disney—which bought Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion this week—revealed today that Episode 78 and 9 are in the works.

The Mouse House is planning on releasing the ensuing sequels every two to three years, Disney chief exec Robert Iger said in a conference call with reporters.

Back when Lucas was announcing plans for Star Wars: Episode 1—The Phantom Menace back in the 1990s (those high expectations we harbored were so long ago), he indicated that he envisioned both three prequels and three sequels to kick off and cap off his seminal trilogy.

And now, Disney is looking to make it happen.

The mega-brand is also interested in developing new Star Wars properties for its theme parks (what, improve on Star Tours?!) and Disney XD network.

“We love the fact that this will take its place in our live-action strategy as a known and loved brand,” Iger said. “We really like Star Wars potential on TV, and Disney XD would be a great home for that.”

But while Lucas characterized the Disney buyout as a changing of the guard, veteran producer and current Lucasfilm cochair Kathleen Kennedy isn’t moving to a galaxy far, far away—she’ll remain as president under Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn and executive-produce the coming Star Wars films.

And, of course, Lucas created the whole universe, so…his name won’t be forgotten.

James Bond Bisexual: Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem On Alleged Homoerotic ‘Skyfall’ Scene

Daniel-Craig-Javier-Bardem-Pictures-Announce-Start-Bond

Javier Bardem and Daniel Craig at the premiere of the new James Bond film “Skyfall”

Is Javier Bardem the first “Bond boy”?

Speculation over what has been described as an “erotically-charged scene” in which Bardem’s character Silva apparently caresses the torso of James Bond (Daniel Craig) in the latest installment of the 007 franchise, “Skyfall,” has been rampant in the weeks leading up the movie’s Nov. 9 release.

Now Craig is setting the record straight, albeit somewhat coyly, in a new Movieline interview. Describing the scene as “a great flirt” and “a game of cards,” the actor says, “Someone suggested that Silva may be gay. And I’m like, I think he’ll f*** anything.”

Craig, who said that he “loves the scene,” also noted, ” I don’t see the world in sexual divisions.”

As for Bardem, the Spanish actor noted that while Silva’s sexuality was “part of the game,” his goal as the character was simply to create “uncomfortable situations” for the other players. “Within that, you can read anything that you want or wish,” he said. “But it was more about putting the other person in a very uncomfortable situation where even James Bond doesn’t know how to get out of it.”

You can read the full Movieline interview here.

It should be noted that the torture scene in 2006’s “Casino Royale” — in which a naked Bond is strapped to a bottomless chair while being whipped in the genitals bythe villainous Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen) — was also noted for its “homoerotic” subtext.

James Franco, Best Supporting Actor? ‘Spring Breakers’ May Get Oscar Qualifying Run In December

James Franco Spring Breakers

Actor James Franco speaks onstage at the “Spring Breakers” press conference during the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival

Spring break forever, even in December. According to Showbiz 411 guru Roger Friedman, Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers” may get an end-of-year releaseto qualify the film and co-star James Franco for the 85th annual Academy Awards.

“Spring Breakers” debuted at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year before making waves at the Toronto International Film Festival. The consensus among critics was that the film is bonkers, with special praise being bestowed upon Franco for his over-the-top performance as a cornrows-wearing drug dealer named Alien. Noted Vulture’s Kyle Buchanan when the film screened in Toronto:

What Matthew McConaughey did for “Magic Mike,” Franco does for “Spring Breakers”: Each pushes their star power past parody as the debauched MC holding court over a motley crew of hard-bodied, in-too-deep young ones.

Per HuffPost Entertainment sister site Moviefone, Franco says some of the following lines in “Spring Breakers”:

“I straight hustle! I am a hustler.”

“Look at my shit! I am a f-ckin’ nightmare in this motherf-cker. I am the f-ckin’ Death Star!”

All of which is to say, Franco’s work in “Spring Breakers” is the type of brassy supporting performance that could get Academy notice. Unless, of course, McConaughey retains his summertime status as an Oscar contender for his aforementioned and similar work in “Magic Mike.” Other actors thought to be in contention for Best Supporting Actor include Philip Seymour Hoffman (“The Master”), Tommy Lee Jones (“Lincoln”), Robert De Niro (“Silver Linings Playbook”), Alan Arkin (“Argo”), John Goodman (“Argo”), William H. Macy (“The Sessions”) and perhaps Leonardo DiCaprio (“Django Unchained”) and Russell Crowe (“Les Miserables”), so the category is not without possibilities.

Justin Bieber’s Stolen Laptop: Hoax or No Hoax?

Justin Bieber Nude Photo

Justin Bieber Tweets this photo as part of his “hoax”

It all started on Wednesday, when the “Boyfriend” singer tweeted to his 29 million followers, “Yesterday during the show me and my tour manager Josh had some stuff stolen. Really sucks. People should respect other’s property.” He was apparently referring to his computer, which was stolen during a tour stop in Tacoma, Washington. Coming as it did after a “SWATting” of his Calabasas home by pranksters, it seemed like Bieber was getting it from every direction.

Rumors immediately began to circulate that the hard drive contained several things Bieber did not want the world to see, including a naked photo (a headless shot of a nude boy’s body not unlike Bieber’s started making the rounds on Twitter) and an allegedly illicit video, teased throughout the week by a Twitter user named @gexwy who claimed to have the laptop and have successfully cracked Bieber’s password. Bieber at one point responded directly to @gexwy, pledging, “No matter what you have and what you post tomorrow I know my fans won’t leave me. Screw it. #toostrong.”

Yesterday, @gexwy linked to the video he had been promising for days — and it brought Twitter users to the brand new video for Bieber’s duet with Nicki Minaj, “Beauty and a Beat.”

Sorry, Internet! You’ve just been Biebered.

But not so fast: Bieber’s publicist Melissa Victor now tells the Associated Press that the laptop actually was stolen during that Tacoma show. “Be very clear, the laptop was indeed stolen in Tacoma. That was NOT a hoax,” Victor wrote in an email.

Further investigation by the AP into the matter found that a police report was filed online in Tacoma, but police spokesman Mark Fulghum said not much happened beyond that.

“A lot of people got played,” a suspicious Fulghum said. “It became a big media frenzy, so I guess that was the idea.”

So what really happened? An unfortunate situation spun on the fly into a viral marketing campaign? Or are we being had on top of being had?

Burn us once, Bieber ..
